PRODUCT FAMILY

Neutral Density & Attenuators

Neutral-density filters and variable attenuators reduce optical power while limiting spectral distortion.

Reflective, absorptive and adjustable families support detector protection, illumination balancing and laser power control from ultraviolet through near infrared.

NEUTRAL DENSITY & ATTENUATORS · SELECTION OVERVIEW

SELECTION PRIORITIES

Choose neutral density & attenuators around the optical requirement

6 product families are available. Use the engineering filters below to narrow the catalog before comparing exact models.

01

Spectral function

Select bandpass, longpass, shortpass, neutral-density or dichroic behavior from the transmitted and rejected regions.

02

Passband and blocking

Compare center or cutoff wavelength, bandwidth, optical density and out-of-band blocking as a complete requirement.

03

Format and angle

Confirm substrate size, clear aperture and incidence angle because interference-filter edges shift when the filter is tilted.

SELECTION QUESTIONS

Neutral Density & Attenuators FAQ

Technical answers to the questions that most often affect model selection.

Which filter type fits my optical system?
Bandpass filters isolate a spectral region, longpass and shortpass filters define a cutoff edge, neutral-density filters attenuate optical power, and dichroic or thermal filters separate visible and infrared energy. Choose by the required transmitted and rejected bands.
What do center wavelength, FWHM and blocking mean?
Center wavelength locates the passband, full width at half maximum describes its usable width, and blocking defines how strongly out-of-band light is suppressed. All three must be evaluated together rather than selecting from center wavelength alone.
Does angle of incidence change filter performance?
Yes. Interference-filter edges and passbands generally shift as angle of incidence changes, and the response may differ for s and p polarization. Use the specified design angle or request a review when the filter will operate at a significant tilt.
