Should I choose a reflection or transmission grating?
Use a transmission grating for compact in-line layouts and a reflection grating when the diffracted path should remain on the incident side or when a reflective coating and blaze condition are required. Mechanical envelope and wavelength range often decide the format.
How do groove density and blaze affect a grating?
Groove density controls angular dispersion, while blaze angle concentrates efficiency toward a selected wavelength and diffraction order. Higher dispersion does not automatically provide higher system resolution; slit width, focal length and detector sampling also matter.
Which grating data should be confirmed before ordering?
Confirm groove density, blaze wavelength or angle, usable wavelength range, diffraction order, substrate dimensions, clear aperture and expected efficiency. The drawing must also identify groove direction and coated face orientation.
